My interests are focused on continental philosophy and critique and their application to contemporary issues of 'being' and ontological openness. Drawing on the work of a range of philosophers, including Jean-Luc Nancy, Jacques Derrida, Martin Heidegger, Jean-Francois Lyotard and Walter Benjamin, I am exploring the link between on one hand German Idealism and Romanticism and on the other late twentieth and early twenty first century postmodern theory and philosophy, and their applications in various cultural fields, including art, film, photography and poetry. My reading takes me to the postkantian philosophies of Schelling and Hegel as well as Kant's critiques. I am seeking to develop a positive philosophy that overcomes the limits of negative philosophy derived from Hegelian dialectic. To do this I am currently working on the link between Schelling and Heidegger, and how this link might lead to new ways of thinking about contemporary issues of nature, art and technology. My current project is a book entitled Letting Nature Be: Nature Philosophy and Art in the Technological Epoch.
